₹9,330 crore unclaimed in inoperative EPF accounts
A huge amount of money, ₹9,330.56 crore, is sitting in EPF accounts that people have stopped using.
The government has told the Rajya Sabha about this.
These accounts are called inoperative because no money has been added to them for three years.
The EPFO is trying to tell people how to get their money back through social media and special camps.
If your EPF account is inactive, you can still get your money by transferring it to your current account or withdrawing it if you are retired.
The money in these accounts earns interest until you are 58 years old.
₹9,330.56 crore is lying unclaimed in inoperative EPF accounts as of 31 March 2026.
The EPFO is conducting awareness campaigns to educate people about claiming EPF funds.
An EPF account becomes inoperative if no contributions are received for three years.
