UPI Frauds Rise to Rs 805 Crore
India has seen a lot of money lost to fraud through UPI, which is a way to pay digitally.
This year, up to November, Rs 805 crore was lost in 10.64 lakh incidents.
This is less than last year, when Rs 981 crore was lost, but more than the year before that.
The government and banks are trying to stop these frauds by using special technology and teaching people how to stay safe.
They also have a helpline and a website where people can report fraud.
Even though there are more frauds, more people are using UPI to pay, with billions of transactions happening every month.
UPI frauds in FY26 (up to November) amounted to Rs 805 crore across 10.64 lakh incidents.
Fraud amounts have decreased compared to FY25 (Rs 981 crore) but increased compared to FY23 (Rs 573 crore).
Government, RBI, and NPCI have implemented measures like device binding, two-factor authentication, and AI/ML-based fraud monitoring.
Awareness campaigns and reporting platforms like the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and helpline '1930' have been established.
UPI transactions grew by 32% in count and 22% in amount in November 2023.
