Exporters Exempt from Service Tax on Foreign Bank Charges
Imagine you're an exporter in India.
When foreign banks charge you fees, you don't have to pay a special tax called service tax on those charges.
The tax rules in India say that the person in India who gets the bank's service (like an Indian bank) is the one who pays the tax, not you.
This is because the bank providing the service is located in another country and isn't under the control of Indian tax officials.
Indian tax law determines service tax liability.
Exporters are not liable for service tax.
The service tax is paid by the domestic recipient.
The service provider is located overseas.
The provider is outside the jurisdiction of Indian tax authorities.
