Sydney Hannukah Festival Shooting
On December 15, 2023, a terrible shooting happened at a Jewish festival in Sydney, Australia.
A father and his son started shooting at people, killing 15 and hurting many more.
The father was shot by police, and his son is in the hospital.
People are very sad and have made a memorial for the victims.
The police are still trying to find out why this happened.
Some people think it was because of hate against Jewish people.
A brave man named Ahmed al-Ahmed stopped the shooting by taking a gun away from one of the shooters.
The Australian government is looking at their gun laws to see if they need to be stricter.
Many people, including the Indian Prime Minister, have said that terrorism is bad and should not be tolerated.
The Australian Prime Minister said the shooting was driven by Islamic State ideology.
Ahmed al-Ahmed, the hero, is a 43-year-old tobacco and specialty convenience store owner who was initially misidentified as a fruit seller.
He is recovering in the hospital after being shot twice during the incident.
Another heroic couple, Boris and Sofia Gurman, tried to disarm one of the shooters but were tragically killed.
The father, Sajid Akram, was originally from Hyderabad, India, and had lived in Australia for about 27 years.
He had limited contact with his family in India and was not known to have any radical connections there.
The suspects had traveled to the Philippines recently, and the purpose of their trip is being investigated.
