Ambikagiri Nagar Residents Accuse GMC of Negligence Over Clogged Drains
Imagine your neighborhood's water pipes get full of leaves and gunk.
In Ambikagiri Nagar, the pipes (drains) are clogged, and bushes are growing in the small roads because the people in charge of cleaning them haven't done their job for a long time.
The residents are upset because this caused floods before and they worry it will happen again.
They even tried asking for help from special cleaning machines but nothing happened.
They've spent their own money to clean a little bit, but it's not enough.
Now they are asking a government minister to help make sure the drains are cleaned regularly.
Residents of Ambikagiri Nagar in Guwahati are complaining about clogged drains and uncleared by-lanes.
They accuse the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) of negligence, stating cleaning activities have not occurred for months.
The Brihattar Ambikagiri Nagar Unnayan Samiti (BANUS) previously appealed to the GMC for drain clearance using super sucker machines without response.
Residents fear a repeat of artificial flooding that occurred during the rainy season due to poor drainage maintenance.
The local development committee has used its own funds for temporary cleaning, and an appeal has been made to the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister.
