Telangana Plans Thermal Plant in Odisha
The Telangana government is thinking about building a big power plant that uses coal in Odisha.
This power plant would be near a coal mine called Naini, which is operated by a company called Singareni Collieries.
The government is sending a team to check if this is a good idea.
The coal mine is very big and can produce a lot of coal for many years.
The power plant would be able to make a lot of electricity.
The government and the company are excited because this is the first time they are working outside of Telangana.
They also want to help the area where the mine is located to grow and develop.
Telangana government considers setting up a 1,600 MW thermal power plant at Naini coal block in Odisha.
A team of officials will visit the Naini area to study the feasibility of the project.
Naini block is SCCL's first operational coal mine outside Telangana, inaugurated in April 2024.
The coal block has an estimated peak production capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum and reserves lasting 35 years.
SCCL's entry into Odisha is seen as a step towards global expansion and development of the Angul region.
