PETA India Opposes Stray Dog Confinement
PETA India wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to oppose a plan that would keep stray dogs and cattle locked up for their entire lives.
They said this plan is cruel and not a good solution.
Instead, they suggested better ways to manage these animals, like sterilizing and vaccinating them.
PETA India also talked about how male calves and old cows are often abandoned by dairies and how overcrowded facilities can cause diseases.
They want the government to enforce rules against illegal dairies and promote plant-based milk alternatives.
They believe these methods will be more effective and humane.
PETA India wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing proposals for lifelong confinement of stray dogs and cattle.
The organization submitted two roadmaps for humane management of community dogs and stray cattle, based on principles of Ahimsa and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
PETA India criticized a proposal by the Animal Welfare Board of India for confining dogs in spaces as small as 20 square feet, calling it cruel and ineffective.
The organization argued that mass confinement would divert resources from the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, which focus on sterilization and rabies vaccination.
PETA India also addressed the issue of stray cattle, calling for strict enforcement against illegal dairies and policies promoting plant-based milk alternatives.
