Govt Extends Option to Switch Pension Schemes for Employees
The Indian government is giving some of its workers a chance to change their retirement plan.
Employees who started working between April and August of 2025 can now pick a different plan called UPS instead of the usual NPS.
They have until the end of September 2025 to decide.
UPS offers them a guaranteed amount of money when they retire.
The change gives them a choice to decide how they want to save for their retirement.
With UPS, both the employees and the government contribute money towards retirement savings.
The government is offering a one-time option for central government employees.
The option is for those who joined between April 1, 2025, and August 31, 2025, under NPS.
Employees can switch to the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
The deadline to opt-in is September 30, 2025.
UPS provides assured payouts.
