Over 5 Crore Voter Forms Distributed in Single Day During Election Roll Revision
Election officials across India are working hard to update the list of people who can vote.
They are handing out special forms to voters in nine states and three Union territories.
In just one day, they gave out more than 5 crore forms!
So far, they've given out over 42 crore forms in total to about 83% of the eligible voters in these areas.
This special form-giving process started in early November and will end in early December.
After this, the election officials will create a new list of voters, which will be ready by February.
Some political parties are worried that this process might accidentally leave some people off the voter list, but the election officials say they are taking steps to make sure everyone who should vote can.
Over five crore voter forms were distributed in a single day as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The SIR is currently underway in nine states and three Union territories.
A total of over 42 crore SIR enumeration forms have been distributed so far across 12 participating regions.
This extensive distribution covers approximately 82.7% of the 50.99 crore eligible voters in these areas.
Criticisms regarding potential voter disenfranchisement have been raised, but the Election Commission asserts procedures are in place to ensure inclusivity.
