EU Prosecutor: Fight Tax Fraud and Corruption in Europe
Imagine Europe is losing a lot of money, like 50 billion euros every year, because some people are cheating on their taxes and customs.
These cheaters are like gangs, and they are doing things like hiding the real value of goods coming into Europe from China.
The EU's top prosecutor, Laura Kovesi, is trying to stop them.
She's been investigating in places like a big port in Greece.
They have even taken control of over 2,400 containers filled with goods.
Kovesi wants to send a strong message that these criminals are not welcome anymore.
She also wants Greece to change some laws to help fight against corruption, so they can investigate politicians more easily.
EU is losing an estimated 50 billion euros annually from tax and customs fraud.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is investigating fraud cases, including the 'Calypso' case.
Over 2,400 shipping containers have been confiscated at Piraeus port.
Gangs allegedly underreport the value of goods from China.
Kovesi is pushing for more resources and legal changes to combat corruption.
