Gour Banga University Clarifies High 'Tatkal' Certificate Fees After Outrage
Imagine a university where you need a special paper, like a certificate, very quickly.
A video showed someone asking for a lot of money, ₹1,500, to get it fast.
This made many people upset because it seemed too expensive.
But the university explained that this high price was for a super-fast service, like getting it within three days.
They also said there's a regular way to get the paper for much less money, around ₹500, but it takes about three weeks.
The university said this fast service fee was approved by their leaders and is normal for many schools when you need something right away.
They also mentioned the person in the video wasn't a regular staff member and her words might have been misunderstood.
Gour Banga University (GBU) clarified fees for student certificates after a viral video sparked outrage.
The video showed a woman reportedly asking for ₹1,500 for same-day certificate issuance, while a ₹500 fee was for issuance the next month.
GBU officials stated ₹1,500 is a 'tatkal' charge for issuance within 72 working hours, and ₹500 is the standard fee for issuance within 20 working days.
The fee structure was recommended by the finance department and approved by the university's Executive Council in 2024.
University officials explained that charging extra for expedited services is common practice and the woman in the video was not a permanent employee.
