SC asks 19 states, UTs to declare cancer notifiable disease

Cancer is a very serious illness that many people get.

In India, a big court called the Supreme Court helps make important rules.

The court wants every state and territory to keep track of people who have cancer by making it a 'notifiable disease.'

That means doctors must tell the government about every cancer patient.

This helps find cancer early, so patients can get care sooner.

Right now, only 17 of India's 36 states and territories are doing this.

So the court asked the other 19 states to start too.

A famous doctor named Anurag Srivastava asked the court to make this happen.

The government says health rules are decided by each state, not the whole country.

The judges think the whole country should follow one clear rule instead.
