Beach Shack Owners Request Monsoon Extension Halt
Some beach shack owners in Calangute, India, are asking to close their businesses early.
Usually, they can stay open longer, but the monsoon came early this year with heavy rain and strong winds.
Some shacks have even been damaged.
Because of this dangerous weather, the shack owners don't want to stay open any longer.
The water has also gotten very close to the shacks, causing beach erosion.
They want to make sure no one gets hurt, so they've asked for the government not to allow them to stay open past the original deadline.
The Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) requested the tourism department to halt beach shack extensions.
SOWS cited dangerous weather conditions due to early monsoon.
Some shacks in the Calangute-Candolim beach-belt were damaged by strong winds and rain.
Beach erosion has become a concern, with water reaching closer to shacks.
Last year, shacks were given extensions until mid-June.
