US military doubles down on Iran blockade as Trump pivots

The United States and Iran are in a big disagreement over events in West Asia.

The US military has placed a blockade around Iran, stopping ships from coming and going.

That makes it very hard for Iran to buy food, medicine, and other important supplies.

US President Donald Trump first planned to use military force, but he has now decided to try economic pressure instead.

One big reason is that the US military is running low on missiles and cannot keep fighting for long.

Iran's leaders say the blockade is hurting their country badly, and important supplies could run out by the end of August.

Iran's president even told the country's supreme leader that he would quit if a peaceful deal was not approved.

At the same time, life is hard for many American families because petrol costs a lot and jobs have been lost.

This may affect the upcoming US mid-term elections, where Democrats are leading in surveys.

Both sides have agreed to an interim peace deal, but no one knows yet whether the new economic pressure will work.
