Supreme Court Pauses Coercive Action Against Tata Chemicals

Supreme Court Pauses Coercive Action Against Tata Chemicals

Tata Chemicals has asked India's Supreme Court to review a decision by the Gujarat High Court.

The dispute concerns land used for channels that carry wastewater to the sea.

A district collector rejected the company's claim to the land in 2006.

The high court dismissed the company's challenge on May 25.

The case also involves allegations of environmental damage and encroachment near a marine sanctuary in the Gulf of Kutch.

The Supreme Court has asked the Gujarat government to respond by November 2.

Until then, it said authorities must not take coercive action against the company.

The court has not yet decided the underlying dispute.
