Chandavaram Buddhist Sthupa Set for Tourist Destination Development

Officials visited an old Buddhist Sthupa at Chandavaram.

They want to turn it into a tourist destination.

Collector P Raja Babu said its history should be protected.

He also said the site should be preserved for future generations.

A consultant is preparing a plan for its development.

Officials said the Sthupa flourished between the second century BC and second century AD.

They described it as the largest of 150 Sthupas found in Andhra Pradesh.

The nearby Tripurantakam temple may be included in the same tourist circuit.
