Ride-Hailing Apps Continue Advance-Tip Prompts Despite Government Advisory

Ride-Hailing Apps Continue Advance-Tip Prompts Despite Government Advisory
Uber, Ola, Rapido bypass govt call to cancel pre-ride tip · financialexpress.com

Four ride-booking apps are still asking some passengers to pay extra before their ride starts.

The extra payment is described using words such as tips, add-ons or additional fare.

The government says passengers should only be offered a tip after the trip is finished.

It also says apps must not suggest that paying more will help find a driver faster.

A review in Bengaluru and Mumbai found these prompts on Uber, Ola, Rapido and Namma Yatri.

Uber showed choices such as Rs 20, Rs 30 or Rs 50 above the fare.

Rapido connected higher prices with a higher chance of getting a ride.

The companies did not answer questions about the government advisory before publication.
