Uganda Court Releases Rights Activist on Bail
A brave woman named Sarah Bireete, who helps people understand their rights, was let out of jail on Wednesday.
She was arrested last month for talking about problems with the list of people who can vote.
Some groups think she was arrested because she was helping people who disagree with the government.
The government says she broke the rules by sharing private information about voters.
Meanwhile, the president, who has been in power for a long time, won the recent election, but the person who came in second says the election wasn't fair.
Many people around the world are watching what's happening in Uganda.
Sarah Bireete, a prominent rights activist, was released on bail on January 28, 2021.
She was detained on December 30, 2020, for questioning the accuracy of the voter register.
Bireete was charged with offences related to alleged unlawful disclosure of voters’ information.
Her detention was seen by campaign groups as part of a crackdown on dissent ahead of Uganda's general election.
President Yoweri Museveni won the election with 71.6% of the votes, but opposition leader Bobi Wine rejected the results.
