HSBC Plans Deep UK Wealth Job Cuts as AI Use Expands

HSBC is considering cutting many jobs in its UK wealth management business.

A Bloomberg report says the bank is consulting employees about the plan.

If it goes ahead, about half of some management and specialist jobs could go, along with nearly 70% of financial adviser roles.

The report says affected workers are expected to leave by the end of the month.

HSBC says it wants to offer more services digitally and support customers’ changing needs.

CEO Georges Elhedery has made reducing costs and improving efficiency priorities.

He has also supported using AI tools to help employees work more productively.

Other banks are also looking at using AI and automation to reduce costs.

These changes have raised concerns about job security.
