EPF: Conditions for Membership and Top Subscriber FAQs Answered

EPF is like a special piggy bank for retirement that the Indian government supports.

When you work, some of your salary can go into this piggy bank every month.

You can open an EPF account if your basic pay plus dearness allowance is up to ₹15,000 each month.

If you earn more than ₹15,000, you can still choose to join if you want to.

The money in the account earns interest, and for this year it is 8.25 percent, the same as the last two years.

You cannot start an EPF account by yourself — your company must be covered by the law that runs the scheme.

Apprentices cannot join until they become full-time employees.

There is no age limit to save in EPF, but you cannot join the pension part after you turn 58.

To get a pension, you must also be an EPF member first.
