Judge Praises Suspended Prosecutors Who Called Jan 6 Rioters a "Mob"
Imagine two lawyers who were helping put a bad guy named Taylor in jail.
In a paper they wrote, they called the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th a "mob."
Because they used this word, their bosses got mad and suspended them, meaning they couldn't work for a little while.
Then, another judge, Judge Nichols, was in charge of deciding how long Taylor would go to jail.
Even though the lawyers who called the January 6th people a "mob" were suspended, Judge Nichols said they did a really good job and were very professional.
He sentenced Taylor to jail, but Taylor wouldn't have to stay any longer because he already spent a lot of time in jail waiting for his trial.
Taylor was convicted of having a gun and making up a story about his van having bombs.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols praised two suspended prosecutors, Samuel White and Carlos Valdivia, for their work on the case of Taylor Taranto.
White and Valdivia were suspended by the Justice Department for referring to January 6 Capitol rioters as a "mob" in a court filing.
Judge Nichols stated the prosecutors did a "commendable and excellent job" and met the "highest standards of professionalism."
Taylor Taranto was sentenced to 21 months in prison, but will not serve additional time as he has already been in custody for approximately 22 months.
Taranto was convicted on gun and hoax charges related to an incident near former President Barack Obama's Washington home in 2023.
