Assam Revives River Cargo Transport After a Decade
Assam is bringing back the use of rivers for moving goods!
After a long break, they are testing out the Kopili river to transport things like cement.
A boat called MV VV Giri took a big load of cement on a trip.
This is like taking many trucks off the road.
The government hopes this will help make it easier, cheaper, and better for the environment to move things around.
Cargo trial run launched on National Waterway-57 in Assam after a decade.
The Kopili river (NW-57) and Brahmaputra river (NW-2) were used for the trial run.
MV VV Giri carried 300 metric tonnes of cement over a 300-km route.
The initiative aims to revive intra-state freight transport via waterways.
The project aligns with national visions for sustainable transport infrastructure.
