HSBC Begins Coverage of Seven Indian Defence Stocks

HSBC studied seven companies that help India build defence equipment.

It was most positive about Hindustan Aeronautics and Bharat Electronics, giving both companies Buy ratings.

HSBC expects these companies to benefit from more defence spending and domestic manufacturing.

It gave Hold ratings to Solar Industries India, Data Patterns, Astra Microwave Products and Bharat Dynamics.

HSBC was cautious about Bharat Dynamics because private companies may compete for missile contracts.

It also gave Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders a Reduce rating because its earnings growth may slow.

The defence sector is being supported by government spending, local production and exports.

However, winning an order does not mean a company earns the money immediately.

Companies usually need time to build and deliver the equipment.
