Punjab Bypoll Controversy Continues 10 Days After Results
There was an election in a place called Tarn Taran in Punjab, India.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won, but there's a lot of trouble happening even after the results.
The Akali Dal party says the police are being mean to their leaders and workers.
They say the police are making up cases against them to scare them and make them look bad.
The Akali Dal leaders are saying this is not fair and that the AAP knows they can't win in the next big election in 2027, so they are trying to break the Akali Dal's spirit.
The police say they are just doing their job and these cases are not about the election.
Some police officers are also upset because they think they are being treated unfairly.
AAP won the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll, but controversy continues over alleged police highhandedness against Akali Dal leaders.
Multiple FIRs were registered against Akali Dal workers during the by-election, which the Election Commission finds potentially motivated.
Akali Dal leaders claim political oppression, with at least eight leaders arrested and hundreds on the run.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court termed the custody of Akali Dal IT cell in-charge Nashattar Singh illegal and granted him bail.
Discontent is brewing within police ranks over suspensions and CBI raids against officers.
