Anurag Kashyap Says Bollywood Bends Under Power; South Doesn't
Anurag Kashyap is a famous movie director in India.
He makes movies in Hindi, which is part of Bollywood.
He says Bollywood sometimes bends for powerful people.
He does not think anyone does this willingly.
Once you say yes and take the benefits, it is very hard to say no later.
He says people in the industry know this is happening.
They might feel embarrassed or ashamed, but they cannot stop.
Kashyap thinks South film industries are different.
They have a strong regional culture and do not depend on Hindi audiences.
That is why, in his words, South doesn't get compromised.
Anurag Kashyap said Bollywood 'bends' when faced with people in positions of power, and that nobody makes such compromises willingly.
Once a person says yes, they cannot shut the door later because that one yes comes with huge benefits.
Kashyap said people in the industry are aware of their compromises and sometimes feel embarrassed or ashamed but cannot do anything about it.
He argued South film industries are regionally strong, with a strong culture that cannot be divided on the same lines.
According to Kashyap, South doesn't get compromised because it doesn't depend on the Hindi-speaking market.
