Trump Nominee Luke Lindberg Accepted to Lead World Food Programme

The World Food Programme helps people who do not have enough food.

Luke Lindberg has been chosen as the preferred candidate to lead it.

President Donald Trump nominated him.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Food and Agriculture Organization leader Qu Dongyu recommended him.

The choice came after 54 people applied for the job.

Nine applicants made the shortlist.

The World Food Programme board still needed to confirm the choice.

The agency says nearly 300 million people face serious hunger this year.

The United States is the agency’s biggest donor.
