Jesuits Expand Education in Bengal with New Institutions
The Jesuits are a religious group that has been teaching people for a long time.
In Bengal, they started a college in 1860 and made it a special, independent school in 2006.
In 2017 they opened a new university that teaches many subjects like law and engineering.
They also work with big companies and hospitals to give students real‑world learning.
They built a campus in a small village called Raghabpur so that children who live far from cities can study well.
All of this helps people who might not have had good schools before.
Jesuits run 839 schools and 61 higher‑education institutions in India.
St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, became autonomous in 2006 and added new courses.
St Xavier’s University was established in 2017 offering law, engineering, management, and nursing.
Jesuits partner with industry and Tata Medical Centre for interdisciplinary programs.
A rural campus at Raghabpur provides quality education to first‑generation students.
