Assam Declares Five Districts Drought-Hit Amidst Rainfall Shortage
Imagine Assam is having a tough time with very little rain in some areas.
The government noticed this and declared five districts as drought-hit because they haven't had much rain.
These districts are Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Dhubri, Baksa, and Bongaigaon.
This means the government is going to help farmers there, especially those who have insurance for their crops.
The government is also checking other areas in Assam to see how they're doing.
The Agriculture Minister talked to a top official in Delhi to get some help and support for the state.
This is to help the people cope with the drought-like conditions.
Five western Assam districts declared drought-hit due to a 40% rainfall deficit.
The affected districts include Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Dhubri, Baksa, and Bongaigaon.
Farmers with crop insurance under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana are eligible for compensation.
27 districts in Assam are categorized as rainfall deficit zones.
