Activists Urge Scientific Control of Invasive Weed in Wadale Lake
Some people who care about nature went to talk to the leaders of Panvel city.
They said there's a big problem in Wadale Lake.
A plant called Salvinia molesta is growing too much and covering the whole lake.
This plant is bad because it stops other plants and animals in the lake from getting sunlight and oxygen.
The people who care about nature suggested using a tiny bug called Cyrtobagous salviniae weevil to eat the bad plant.
They also said there should be a special team to watch over the lake and other water places to stop this from happening again.
The city leaders said they will look into it and try to find a good solution.
Environmental activists urged the Panvel Municipal Corporation to adopt scientific methods to control the invasive weed Salvinia molesta in Wadale Lake.
The weed has covered almost the entire surface of the lake, threatening the ecosystem by depriving aquatic life of oxygen and sunlight.
Activists proposed using the Cyrtobagous salviniae weevil, a biological control method that feeds exclusively on the invasive plant.
A lake monitoring committee was suggested to prevent future crises by regularly monitoring invasive species in water bodies.
Panvel Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale assured prompt action and coordination with the environment department to find an eco-friendly solution.
