Sambhal Man Alleges Religious Discrimination in Prayers
A man named Mohammad Wasim from Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh says he and his family were not allowed to pray at their local mosque.
He believes this is because of a disagreement over who should lead the prayers and how to pay for the imam's meals.
The village has four mosques, and people from different religious groups usually pray together.
The problem started in January 2024, and even though it was settled later that month, Wasim says the mosque management has not been following the agreement.
The police are looking into the matter.
Mohammad Wasim alleges he and his family were prevented from offering Friday prayers in Sambhal district.
The dispute involves members of the Dhunna and Turk communities over the call for prayers and contributions towards the imam.
The incident stems from a disagreement on January 5, 2024, resolved on January 26, 2024, but allegations persist.
Wasim follows the Deobandi school of thought, and the village has four mosques with followers of both Deobandi and Barelvi traditions.
The police have ordered the registration of an FIR following Wasim's allegations.
