Uttarakhand Launches Jalsakhi Scheme to Empower Women
The government in Uttarakhand is starting a new program called 'Jalsakhi' to help women.
They will give women's groups the job of managing the water supply in their villages.
This includes things like reading meters, sending bills, and fixing problems.
The women will be trained and paid for this work.
It's another way the government is trying to help women earn more money, similar to the 'Lakhpati Didi' program that has already helped many women start businesses and make a good income.
Uttarakhand government is launching the 'Jalsakhi' scheme to involve women in rural water supply.
The scheme will outsource tasks like billing and maintenance to women's self-help groups (SHGs).
Selected SHGs will be trained as 'Nal Jal Mitras' to manage the water supply.
SHGs will receive ₹10 per bill and a share of the revenue.
The 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme has already helped over 1.63 lakh women earn over ₹1 lakh annually.
