Nagpur Issues Notices to Departments for Failing to Replant Trees
The city of Nagpur is telling government departments to plant new trees after they cut down old ones for building projects.
Rules say they must plant five new trees for every one they cut down.
But some departments haven't done this, so the city is sending them warnings.
If they don't follow the rules, they could lose money and face further action.
The city wants to make sure there are enough trees to keep the environment healthy.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) issued 210 notices to government departments for failing to replant trees after felling them.
Departments including MahaMetro, GMC, Mayo Hospital, and PWD received notices for non-compliance.
NMC regulations mandate planting five saplings for every tree cut, maintained for at least three years.
The NMC approved the felling of 6,365 trees between 2019 and 2024, with a condition to plant 89,308 saplings.
Failure to comply with replanting regulations will result in deposit forfeiture and potential legal action.
