Telangana Establishes Unified Traffic, Road and Rail Safety Bureau
Telangana has created a new bureau to help make traffic, roads and rail travel safer.
It is called the Telangana Traffic Management, Road and Rail Safety Bureau, or TG-TMARS.
The bureau will work across Telangana’s more than 32,000-kilometre road network.
It will manage traffic, patrol highways and investigate crashes.
It will also help enforce traffic and railway laws and study crash and enforcement data.
The bureau will have separate teams for traffic and road and rail safety.
Police officers will use cameras and other devices to identify vehicles and detect speeding.
Every police station will have an officer to respond to crashes and help people receive medical care quickly.
Some traffic-fine money will pay for safety equipment, patrol vehicles, repairs and enforcement.
Telangana has established the Telangana Traffic Management, Road and Rail Safety Bureau (TG-TMARS) under the Telangana State Police.
The bureau will coordinate traffic management, enforcement, highway patrolling, crash investigations, analytics and rail safety across the state.
It will operate through Traffic and Road & Rail Safety wings and be headed by an Additional Director General of Police or Inspector General of Police.
Highway patrol personnel will use automatic number plate recognition devices, dashboard cameras and speed detectors.
Forty per cent of traffic-fine collections will fund technology, patrol vehicles, emergency road repairs and enforcement.
