Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Italy Eligible for EU Aid Amidst Migratory Pressures
Some European countries like Greece, Cyprus, Spain, and Italy are getting a lot of visitors, and it's tough to manage.
The European Union has a special plan to help these countries when they face too many people arriving.
This help will be available starting in the middle of 2026.
Other countries in the EU will need to help out by either taking in some of these visitors themselves or by sending money.
The EU is also buying new technology, like drones, to help countries watch their borders better and protect against drone incursions.
Even though there are fewer illegal crossings now, the EU is preparing for ongoing challenges.
Greece, Cyprus, Spain, and Italy are eligible for aid from an EU solidarity pool due to migratory pressures.
The EU's pact on migration and asylum, including this mechanism, will come into effect in mid-2026.
The European Commission will launch a 250 million euro tender for drone and anti-drone capabilities to support border security.
Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Poland are also identified as being at risk of migratory pressure.
Some member states may receive deductions from their contributions to the solidarity pool due to cumulative pressures over the past five years.
