Jharkhand Workshop Seeks Prevention After 161 Drowning Deaths

Officials in Jharkhand met in Ranchi to discuss how to stop people from drowning.

They said 161 people drowned between May and July 2025.

This was more than one-third of all disaster-related deaths recorded during that period.

The officials want to prevent accidents instead of only rescuing people afterward.

They plan to find places where drownings happen often.

Warning signs may be put up at dangerous locations.

Protective barriers may be built around some open waterbodies.

Health departments, local governments, experts and international organisations took part in the discussion.
