Chennai Airport Opens Rs 22.88-Crore Pickup Plaza for Cabs
Chennai airport has opened a new place for taxis to collect passengers.
The facility cost Rs 22.88 crore and is close to Terminal 1.
Before this, many passengers had to walk about 600 metres to find their app-based taxis.
The new plaza can manage about 5,000 taxi pickups each day.
It should make travel easier for older people, pregnant women, people with disabilities and families with children.
The airport is also adding staff to help passengers find their way.
Battery-operated vehicles will continue carrying passengers between terminals and car parks.
New baggage trolleys and more medical equipment are also being planned or added.
The airport is building Terminal 3 and hopes to finish it by April next year.

The facility can handle around 5,000 app-based cab pickups daily and is designed to reduce congestion.
Passengers previously travelled nearly 600 metres to the multi-level car park to reach app-based cabs.
The airport will deploy 105 passenger guidance personnel and has added 20 “May I Help You” staff.
Terminal 3 construction is progressing, with completion planned by April next year.
