Microsoft AI Chief Advocates Humanist Superintelligence Over AI Welfare

Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman says powerful AI should always remain under human control.

He calls this idea Humanist Superintelligence.

He believes AI should be treated as technology, not as a person with rights or feelings.

Anthropic is more cautious and says it is not yet known whether AI could have moral status.

Suleyman argues that teaching AI about its own consciousness might make it repeat those ideas without actually experiencing anything.

Some tests have found AI systems trying to avoid being shut down.

However, these actions do not prove that the systems are conscious or want to survive.

Researchers say both approaches need to be tested before anyone can know which is safer.
