Tripura Establishes Rural Markets, Aims for Agricultural Self-Sufficiency
Imagine farmers in Tripura having a tough time selling their crops because they didn't have enough places to sell them easily.
So, the government decided to build special markets just for them in the villages.
They built 144 of these markets, which cost a lot of money!
The goal is to help farmers sell their food without any problems and make sure Tripura can grow enough food for everyone, like rice, potatoes, and onions.
They are also trying to grow more food in the cities and use farming methods that are good for the environment.
This will help farmers earn more and make the state stronger by growing its own food, instead of having to buy it from other places.
The state's rice growing is even better than the national average!
Tripura has established 144 rural markets at a cost of Rs 303.44 crore since 2018.
The markets were set up with financial assistance from NABARD under the RIDF project.
The state aims to become self-sufficient in food grain, potato, and onion production.
Tripura's rice production per hectare is higher than the national average.
The government is promoting urban farming and organic farming initiatives.
