Nearly 3,000 Indians died waiting for organs in 5 years

In India, nearly 3,000 people died waiting for an organ transplant over the last five years.

Right now, over 82,000 people are waiting for a transplant.

Most of these people need a kidney, but many also need livers, hearts, lungs, or pancreases.

Delhi had the most deaths while waiting, but it also does the most transplants, mostly using organs from living relatives.

Different states have different rules for who gets an organ first.

Some states use scoring systems, others give priority based on who signed up first, and some divide the state into zones.

The government is trying to make the rules the same across all states to make things fairer.
