Gurgaon Approves Ward Committees for Better Governance
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has approved the creation of ward committees to help with local governance.
These committees will have their own bank accounts and will be responsible for things like making sure streets are clean, roads are in good condition, and there is enough water and electricity.
The committees will also have representatives from different groups, like women and Scheduled Castes, to make sure everyone's voice is heard.
The idea is to make it easier for people to talk to the government about problems in their neighborhoods.
However, some residents are worried because they think the committees might not work well, and they prefer the current system where local groups like Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) handle some of these tasks.
The MCG says the committees will help make sure things get done better and faster, but some people are not sure if this will really happen.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) approved the formation of ward committees to enhance public participation in local governance.
Each ward committee will have a councillor as chairperson and include representatives from women, Scheduled Castes, and backward classes.
The committees will focus on local development, sanitation, and basic amenities, with regular meetings to address ward-specific concerns.
Residents have expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the ward committees, preferring the current system managed by Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs).
The MCG believes the committees will improve transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in civic administration.
