Andhra Pradesh Employee Arrears Trigger Government-Union Political Clash

Andhra Pradesh Employee Arrears Trigger Government-Union Political Clash

Andhra Pradesh government employees say they are still owed many payments and benefits.

Their unions say the unpaid amount is more than Rs 40,000 crore, while another estimate puts the liability at about Rs 45,000 crore.

They want money such as salary-revision arrears, unpaid allowances and pension-related benefits.

After earlier meetings did not resolve the issue, the unions announced protests.

The first action will begin on August 31, followed by a Work to Rule campaign from September 15.

Later actions could include demonstrations, non-cooperation and an indefinite strike.

The government says many old bills have already been paid in instalments.

A minister also accused the union leadership of making the issue political, while the unions say they are only defending employees’ rights.
