RBI Imposes Six-Month Restrictions on Gauhati Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has put some rules on a bank called Gauhati Cooperative Urban Bank.
From now until six months, people can only take out Rs 35,000 from their accounts.
The bank can't give new loans or make big payments without the RBI's permission.
This is because the bank isn't doing well financially.
The RBI has been talking to the bank's leaders to improve things, but not enough has been done.
If people have money in the bank, up to Rs 5 lakh is protected.
The bank can still do some banking work, but with these new rules.
The RBI will keep checking on the bank and might change the rules if needed.
RBI imposed restrictions on Gauhati Cooperative Urban Bank due to its deteriorating financial position.
Withdrawals capped at Rs 35,000 per customer for six months.
Bank cannot grant or renew loans, make investments, or incur liabilities without RBI approval.
Deposit insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh available for eligible depositors.
Bank will continue to operate under these restrictions until its financial position improves.
