Asam Sahitya Sabha Celebrates Bhupen Hazarika Birth Centenary

The Asam Sahitya Sabha held a special event in Kolkata to remember singer and cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika.

The event marked what organizers called his birth centenary.

It took place at Assam Bhavan on August 22.

Speakers discussed how Hazarika connected the cultures of Assam and Bengal.

The organization gave awards to four people who have contributed to music, dance, literature and education.

Two books were also released during the program.

Musicians and dancers performed for the audience in the evening.

Organizers said the event encouraged friendship and cultural unity between Assam and Bengal.
