Scientific Adviser Reviews Low-Carbon Urban Waste Management Framework

Government science adviser Ajay Kumar Sood reviewed a project about handling city waste better.

The project was carried out by three Indian research institutions.

Researchers created a tool that helps cities measure pollution from different waste-treatment methods.

The tool can compare options such as recycling, composting, landfilling and turning waste into energy.

It also measures gases such as methane and carbon dioxide.

Cities can use the results to choose methods that create fewer emissions.

The project studied examples from several Indian cities.

It also suggested a national plan for cleaner and more climate-resilient waste management.
