Indian Market Crashes Amid Rupee Weakness
The Indian stock market had a bad day on Monday, December 8, 2025.
The Sensex and Nifty 50 both dropped by nearly 1%, and smaller company stocks fell even more.
This made the total value of all companies on the stock market go down by ₹7 lakh crore.
The Indian rupee is also very weak, reaching almost ₹90.15 per US dollar.
Experts think this happened because the rupee is weak, people are worried about a US interest rate decision, and foreign investors are taking money out of India.
Even though India's economy is growing fast and inflation is low, these factors made investors nervous and sell their stocks.
Sensex dropped over 800 points to an intraday low of 84,906.90, and Nifty 50 fell to 25,902.95.
Mid and small-cap indices crashed more than 2% each during the session.
Overall market capitalization of BSE-listed firms dropped below ₹464 lakh crore, erasing ₹7 lakh crore in value.
Indian rupee hit a low of ₹90.15 against the US dollar due to rising crude oil prices and foreign capital outflow.
Market caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on December 10 contributed to the sell-off.
