Activists Allege Illegal Lease and Tree Felling for Traders’ Godowns
Some activists are upset because they say traders illegally cut down trees and destroyed pavements to build storage buildings.
They claim the land was leased out for a very low price, much less than it's worth.
Activists also say that officials bypassed the usual process for deciding who gets to use the land.
They reported the destruction to forest and APMC officials but say nothing was done.
The activists plan to protest and ask the police to investigate.
They have been fighting against what they see as unfair deals and bad management of this market yard for a long time.
Activists allege traders illegally felled trees and demolished pavements at AdiUdupi APMC yard to construct godowns.
The APMC Rakshana Samithi claims 54 cents of land were leased on a lease-cum-sale basis at a significantly undervalued rate.
Activists assert that land allocation bypassed the elected board and that the lease value is far below market rates.
Despite alerts to forest and APMC officials, no action was taken against the alleged destruction of state-funded pavements and tree felling.
Activists plan to petition the Superintendent of Police and organize demonstrations, continuing a long-standing resistance against perceived favoritism and mismanagement.
