Karnataka HC Modifies Murder Convict's Sentence
A man named Rudresh was found guilty of killing a little boy who was 3.5 years old.
The trial court said he should stay in jail for the rest of his life.
But the Karnataka High Court changed this decision.
They said only very important courts, like the Supreme Court, can say someone should stay in jail until they die.
So, they changed his sentence to life in jail, but he can get some time off for good behavior.
This makes sure the rules are followed correctly.
The Karnataka High Court modified a session court's order sentencing a murder convict to life imprisonment until natural death.
The High Court ruled that only constitutional courts like the Supreme Court and High Courts can impose such a sentence.
The convict, Rudresh, a 21-year-old mutt worker, was found guilty of murdering a 3.5-year-old child.
The session court had convicted Rudresh in November 2017, within three months of the trial's commencement.
The High Court modified the sentence to life imprisonment with the benefit of set off, allowing for time off for good behavior.
