Andhra Pradesh High Court Orders Compensation for Stolen Seized Silver
A jeweller had his silver and cash seized by the police in 2021.
Later, when he went to get them back, he found out that some of the silver and cash had been stolen from the police station.
The jeweller complained to the court, which said the police were negligent and ordered the state to pay him Rs 7 lakh as compensation.
The court also said the jeweller should get back some of the missing silver and cash.
The jeweller had to pay a fine and taxes to get his items back, but not all of them were returned, and some of the silver was not pure.
The court decided the jeweller should be compensated for his losses.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court found the police negligent in the theft of seized silver and cash from a police station.
The court ordered the state to pay the jeweller Rs 7 lakh in compensation for the loss.
The jeweller initially had 105 kg of pure silver and Rs 2 lakh in cash seized in 2021.
The petitioner was only returned 81.567 kg of silver, with only 27 kg being pure, and Rs 10 lakh in cash.
