CCPA Fines Delhi IAS Coaching Centres for Misleading Ads
Imagine some schools that help students prepare for tough exams like the IAS.
The government's consumer protection group, the CCPA, found that two of these schools, Dikshant IAS and Abhimanu IAS, were tricking students with their ads.
They used pictures and names of students who passed, making it seem like the schools were the main reason for their success.
But the students said they had very little to do with the schools, like just attending one mock interview or having their photo used without permission.
The schools also made big claims about how many students passed without good proof.
Because of this dishonesty, the CCPA fined each school ₹8 lakh and wants them to be truthful in their advertising.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined Dikshant IAS and Abhimanu IAS ₹8 lakh each.
The fines were imposed for using names and photographs of successful UPSC candidates without permission.
Coaching centres were found to have made unsubstantiated claims about their success rates.
Complaints were filed by students Mani Shukla (AIR 96, 2021) and Natasha Goyal (AIR 175, 2020).
The CCPA found that many claimed successful candidates achieved ranks through their own efforts, not solely the institutes' training.
