Man Jailed for Remarrying During Ex-Wife's Appeal
A man named Gurdeep Singh got a divorce from his wife Rani in 2020.
Rani appealed the divorce, and the court put a stay on the divorce decree.
This means the divorce wasn't final yet.
But Gurdeep Singh got married again in 2021, even though the appeal was still going on.
The court said this was not right because it went against the rules and made it harder for Rani to try to save her marriage.
So, the court punished Gurdeep Singh by sending him to jail for three months and making him pay a fine.
The court also said that the damage to Rani's chances of reconciliation was done and couldn't be fixed.
Gurdeep Singh was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 for remarrying while his ex-wife's appeal against their divorce was pending.
Singh and Rani were married in 2012 and divorced in 2020. Rani filed an appeal, and the divorce decree was stayed in August 2020.
Despite the stay, Singh remarried in January 2021, five months after the stay was issued.
The court held that Singh's remarriage violated the stay order and undermined the possibility of reconciliation.
Singh's defense that he was not served notice was rejected by the court, which noted that the appeal was filed in time and the stay was operative.
